New sketchbook! Heading home.
At the airport with a new sketchbook. In a couple weeks I'll be back in ny to spend some quality time with my scanner and some completed sketchbooks. Exhausted.

Orange Soda Funeral
My thesis work is going into this direction of my synthetic relationship to Japan and my heritage - memory paintings that
come more from video games, samurai film, and anime than from actual
memory.
The closest to successful painting of the semester. 78"x48", oil on
canvas.

Almost done
2 days until the theater of end-of-term critiques. After which, I will have time to scan and upload the 4 finished sketchbooks that are sitting around, maybe do some grocery shopping, laundry, write about that Jenny Saville workshop, show what I've been painting and all that.

Jenny Saville workshop
Over the past two days I had the good fortune to partake in a painting workshop with Jenny Saville. I'll write more later and share some photos, but quickly, she's a remarkable, kind, generous woman and it was a transformative couple of days (I think). She's everything you'd hope one of your favorite artists would be.
Also, she is surprisingly short.

Stealing from the masters.
Studies of Japanese block print compositions. Doing this, the evolution of perspective becomes very apparent.

Girls on graph paper.
I realized that my painting class with Vincent Desiderio is made up of 20 women, 2 boys. It's scary but makes for prettier drawings.

Drink and draw
Always fun to open up my sketchbook after a night of heavyish drinking to see what was drawn on the subway at 3am on my way home.
I have no idea what this means.

Morgan, academically, in grease on aluminum
Grease pencil on aluminum for my first lithograph print a week from
today. No idea how dark to go, what's going to transfer, what's going
to get lost, etc. These things will get more creative if I can help
it, but sometimes the academic drawing thing feels so good. I have a
new series in my head, interesting enough (for the moment) that I just
woke up at 4:30 am to do research.

bad cyclone with hurricane coming
Took a little bike ride down to Coney Island yesterday. By the time I
got down there I was tired and hungry and my hands were lazy and the
TI that was blasting in the park behind me limited my Cyclone drawing
abilities. There is supposedly this Hurricane coming in this
afternoon. It's about 20 degrees cooler than yesterday. No complaints.

A ritualistic individual.
I have begun to acquire items (bags, pens, notebooks, helmets) based solely on the aesthetic value they bring to my drawings.

prayers at CDG
This was sort of a beautiful culture-clash of a moment. I didn't do
it justice here but I'm going to try to do so soon.

Shaky iced coffee hands.
Best time of the year. Summer cooling down, school starting in a week, fantasy football drafts drafting, still a bit of time to chill.

New book bag ritual.
Ready for my last year of school ever. Last page of my residency sketchbook. 80 pgs. I'll upload it all this week.

And I'm home.
Blogging from the comfort of my own bed. What a trip. I'll try to process and go through photos and start some new work this week. I think pastels might be my new thing.

Dy nasty
One more day in France. Soon to hop on a train to Paris, or so I thought. Everybody seems to be sleeping still. It's a rainy day in the country... I might just try to enjoy that.
In going to wait to post my project until it's done in a couple weeks. I had a great, tough critique yesterday from wade and the other artists. I've been searching for this thing it's going to take for me to get to this next level and I think all the information is there now.
I actually wish I could spend the day painting, but dry time won't allow. I thing I might be making a big switch to pastel. Seriously. It's not just for kids anymore.
