2am drawing outside in madrid
I should have learned what this place is. First 24 hours in Madrid were rough. Lost luggage, lost art supplies, no sleep for 36 hrs, no wifi. And my Spanish is really bad. Really. I always forget how tough the first day of traveling is.
Day 2 is going much more smoothly.

The joy of JFK
As always JFK is taking forever, but on the plus side, they give you plenty of time on the runway to work on cabin interior drawings.
See y'all in Madrid.

"Talent is just a another name for a love of a thing." (Radiolab link)
It's an interesting listen for all us artists, but relates to any field. Talent=Love has always been my feeling on the subject. If you're not already a Radiolab listener, and you're any kind of nerd (like me), you should check it out.

Where the magic happens
Sometimes you wake up, put on your drunk pants and find a wealth of half-familiar compositions scribbled out on bar napkins.

Nearer Life
Re-investigating this painting at a smaller scale for a commission. It's been interesting giving this image another go, knowing more about color, structure, physics, and knowing it's not really what I'm about these days. It's actually been much harder this time around.
However learning to paint in some middle ground between direct and indirect changes everything for the better regarding the integration of the face, the reflections, the clouds.
The studio is getting hotter, stuffier, and more difficult to paint in every day. It's a brick oven with no windows and liquin fumes in the air, but fortunately after this piece I'm going to be moving out for the summer. It's going to be a world apart from the residency in a few weeks painting under the cerulean sky in the French countryside.
There's another funny project I'm tacking onto the trip as well. I'm calling it slow-blogging.

This old thing.
I'm going back into some paintings from the year, doing a little experimentation.
Got my new iPhone. The camera is a huge huge improvement, so hopefully these hasty hellos are a bit less blurry.
